The Ready for School project piloted a music programme aimed at supporting the development of speech, language and communication in rising 5s. Children from 6 pre-schools were selected to take part in the programme, many of whom were identified as requiring support to develop their communication skills.

The children were measured on their progress not only in music but also in speech development. Standardised tests were carried out by a NHS speech therapist. The results showed that the music programme had an amazing effect on the development of the children’s┬áspeech and language ability.

One reception class teacher remarked, it was “amazing progress from so many children”.

Other results showed that the children became more confident and made the transition from nursery to school well. “It was amazing to see in our term 1 Fab Finish that some children had the confidence to sing solos in front of over 60 adults!” said one teacher.
